Course Overview

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to…

  1. Relate the importance of executive function to the occupations of children.
  2. Compare and contrast thinking and doing skills.
  3. Apply the Train Model to executive function in pediatric occupational therapy.
  4. Interpret the OTPF4 (AOTA, 2021) terminology as it relates to executive function.
  5. Explain how behavioral concerns affect executive function during occupations of childhood.
  6. Examine 3 treatment strategies and/or resources to help improve executive function and its sub-groups.
  7. Distinguish between concepts of the train model in relation to executive function components.
  8. Examine assessments that can be used to measure executive function in pediatric therapy.
  9. Discuss Theory of Mind in relation to occupational performance.
  10. Examine two of the metacognitive programs commonly used by therapists.
  11. Recommend at least two working memory strategies.
  12. Relate occupational therapy goals in multiple settings to executive function.

This course is designed for pediatric occupational therapists, though other professions such as speech-language and physical therapists may also find the information useful and applicable to their fields.

CARA KOSCINSKI, OTD, MOT, OTR/L

Dr. Cara Koscinski is many things!  She is the mother to two sons with autism, an occupational therapist, the original founder of The Pocket Occupational Therapist (now The Therapeutic Edge Collective), an author, educator, presenter, mentor, and more!

Dr. Koscinski has over 26 years of experience in the field of occupational therapy.  She has written 8 books related to the field and created countless resources such as continuing education courses, therapy materials, handouts, and more.
